CSP and HACLA Partnership Starts First Ever HACLA Pee Wee Football Team
The Los Angeles Police Department Community Safety Partnership (CSP)in collaboration with the HACLA Housing Services Department/Resident Services teamed up with Keith Johnson of the Southern California Falcons Youth Football to start the first ever HACLA Pee Wee football team.
Mr. Johnson’s experience and proven track record in youth football will be instrumental in building an effective youth football and mentoring program in Nickerson Gardens, Imperial Courts, Jordan Downs and the surrounding community. The Goal of the program is to use sports as a vehicle to introduce and reinforce the concept of strong character, positive values, personal responsibility and academic excellence.
Youth were recruited by CSP out of the Nickerson Gardens, Imperial Courts and Jordan Downs communities, as well as from 3 of the middle schools that service the developments and adjacent communities. The football team has 27 youth ages 9-11.
In its inaugural season, the Watts Bears will be coached by 5 CSP officers. The Watts Bears will play in the Los Angeles County Pop Warner League. They will play with teams from Palos Verdes, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Culvers City, Attens Park, Venice and Santa Monica.
The first game will be held on August 25 at 1pm at Narbone High School. The league will play 7 games this season followed by the playoffs.
